Showcasing the
Beauty of
Natural Woods

About
At Weichert Wood Art, I am dedicated to exposing nature’s
beauty by uncovering the anomalies of growth characteristics in trees. We’re all familiar with growth rings and grain patterns, and we love the feel of smooth, shiny wood. However, wood is more than furniture and houses—it can take on any imaginable form for utilitarian purposes and it is an extremely pleasing medium for artwork.

The real wooden treasures are found in the most unlikely places; gnarly root-balls, tumor-like burls, fungus-riddled old-growth hard-wood, and everyday lumber cut in unusual ways.

Whether a wooden creation is designed for everyday use, such as a serving plate, or as a unique art piece, I try to bring out the natural beauty in every project. I only use clear finishes so the natural colors are enhanced, but not unnecessarily altered. Natural flaws are intentionally incorporated as unique and interesting highlights. Only food-safe finishes are applied to pieces that can be used as serving plates or bowls, although they may very well be worthy of spending their idle time on display.

Segmented turning is a deviation from my purely natural doctrine. The purpose is to create color combinations, sizes, or shapes that are impossible to obtain from a single piece of wood. However, I still maintain my paramount objective to showcase the natural grain and colors of each individual piece of wood.

The beauty of natural wood, exposed by cutting, milling, turning, or carving, is a marvel that everyone can enjoy. When I rescue a chunk of wood that was destined for the fireplace or the land fill, and turn it into an interesting piece of art or a usable vessel, it’s not just a pleasurable endeavor, it’s my Salute to Mother Nature!
