My concept of utilitarian salt & pepper grinders is that they should be durable and made from interesting pieces of wood. I steer away from highly detailed beads and coves, because I think too much detail detracts from the beauty of the woods. Some may call these designs simple, but I call them Simple Elegance.
Instead of using the traditional adjustment knob protruding from the top type mill mechanisms, I prefer the CrushGrind mills, which allow for cleaner looking designs. Grind adjustment is made using the knob hidden at the bottom of the grinders. To refill, simply pull off the top, which is held in place with an interior spring clamp.
